Hi Ted

I notice that you don't have anyone on the Clark County page for the WAYLAND surname. Why don't you put my name on there as I have a large amount of information on the Clark County Waylands. When I was writing my book, "Wayland Families in 19th Century Missouri," I corresponded with some Clark County Wayland people and put a lot of their line in my book. It is all on my database now. Incidentally, I have a very interesting story on the early settlers' conflicts with wildlife...bears, wolves, etc. It is from an article by Hazel LeMaster in "The Media" of Kahoka, MO. I don't know if it would be appropriate to post that or not as it may be copyrighted. There is no date on it, but it is from many years ago, though.

John Wayland

Any takers on John's generous offer?

Greetings

I am interested in any WAYLAND inquiries. Some 15 years ago, I wrote a book, "Wayland Families in 19th Century Missouri" and had much on the Clark Co. Waylands therein, although my ancestors settled in Chariton, Randolph and Howard Counties, MO. Jeremiah Wayland, b. 29 Jun 1796 VA, d. 19 Feb 1883 St. Francisville, MO, m. Nancy Jane BARTLETT 4 May 1811 in Davies Co., KY. Immigrating to Clark Co. with Jeremiah were his two brothers-in-law, Samuel BARTLETT and George HAYWOOD. Jeremiah is listed in the book of early land grants as purchasing land in Clark Co. on 23 Dec 1829 (Vol. 1, p. 54). I can probably help others researching the WAYLAND name in Clark County.

My question is. How can I find an address for someone who died in 1934, I have a death Cert. but much of the information is either omitted or incorrect, according to information I have received, outside of the death cert.

Hello Clark County Researchers:

While searching for my MALONE kin, I happened upon a web site dealing with the ill-fated Donner Party. Therein I noted several members were married in Clark Co., MO, so thought I'd share as the info may benefit others. I took the liberty of editing the extremely long data, but have provided the URL should anyone wish to visit the site for additional information. Hope the info proves interesting, and, helpful.
With kind regards, Steve

Hi Bob,

FYI to anyone researching Days Cemetery at Windchester, MO, My Great-grandfather, Andrew Harvey FOX and Great-grandmother, Nancy Elizabeth BROWN are buried in Days Cemetery in an unmarked grave. There is no record of their burial besides family records and recollections, but they are there. All listings of Days Cemetery leaves them out.

Subject: Surnames: WILSEY /WAPLES
Date: Sat, 10 Jul 1999 03:13:27 EDT
From: Izzy1865@aol.com

I was directed to your site by one of my "cousins" — we share the same g-g-g-grandparents — and went immediately to check on my direct family surname of WILSEY... to no avail. I also checked on my grandmother's maiden surname, WAPLES, and found nothing there either.
Since both families have been resident in Clark County and the surrounding area for many years, I am inquiring about the necessary steps for having these two surnames added to your site. From what I can gather, there must be a person with an e-mail address who is willing to accept/field questions concerning the surname inquiry. If my understanding of this is lacking, I will look forward to hearing from you as to what exactly "monitoring" a surname entails.
With regard to the prominence of the WILSEY surname in Clark County,
I am able to tell you that my g-g-grandfather, P.I. Wilsey, served two terms as tax collector for the county as cited in the book History of Northeast Missouri. He was also engaged in farming in both Clark County, Missouri, and Lee County, Iowa, as well as a grain business in Wayland. A biography of my g-g-g-grandfather, H.I. Wilsey, can be found in the book entitled History of Lewis, Clark, Knox & Scotland Counties.
It is also my understanding that the WAPLES family were long-time resdents of Clark County — according to my father.
I shall look forward to hearing from you and finding out how these two surnames might be added to your Forum.
Kindest regards,
Josi Wilsey-White

I would appreciate knowing what the Athens encounter was plus when and where
it occurred.  Apparently, one of my ancestors, Charles S. Callihan,
participated in the event (There's some evidence that he left the field in
haste.) and, if so, I want to document the story for our family history.
Thanks for any consideration given this request.
