William (A.) Ackland Obituary

William Ackland, son of the late Jas. Ackland, was born at Bedford, Ohio, August 13, 1846, died at Saloam Springs, Arkansas, Sept. 30, 1916, aged 70 years, 1 month and 17 days. He died a the home of his son, Victor. The greater part of his life was spent at Luray and Kahoka. For twelve years he has alternated between this county, Colorado and Arkansas.

During the war he was a member of Company M. 9th Iowa Cavalry. He served until the close of the war. In 1869 he united with the Luray Baptist church, and in 1870 became the husband of Drusilla Brokaw, of Luray. (Drusilla's father, Aaron Brokaw was also civil war veteran). To this union were born three sons: George D. and V L. of Siloam Springs, Arkansas and J. L. of Los Angeles. All were at the bedside of their father. Hs wife has been deceased for 19 years. Additional to his sons, there are surviving, three nephews, two nieces and seventeen grandchildren.

The funeral was from the Baptist Church, Luray, Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 2 o'clock. Conducted by Rev. Bane.

Interment was in the Luray, (Combs) cemetery.
