DEATH OF PETER LANE

Peter B. Lane died at his home in Luray July 18, (1926), aged 79 years, 2 months and 7 days. He was born in Ohio, and on April 27,1870, was married to Miss Malinda Hamilton, the latter passing away in 1910. He gave two years of service in the Civil War as a member of Co. A. 39th Regiment, Missouri Infantry, and was honorably discharged in 1865. He died a member of the Baptist church, and is survived by his adopted son, Charles Graham and family.

The writer well knew "Pete" Lane. In his palmy (T) days he was able and willing to turn out as honest a day's labor as any man of his "inches" and as tough as the proverbial pine knot. He was over liberal in ways for his own good, hence he did (not) accumulate of this world's goods, but he did hold the affection of those who esteemed him as an honest man and good citizen. Early, he refused to apply for an army pension for the reason that he was injured in wrestling with a friend and not in the service. Some principle in that.

Interment was in the Combs cemetery under the direction of Rev. G. W. Ridley
