John William Barber

John William (also Johnny or J. W.) Barber 68, died January 28, 1997, in Minneola District Hospital, Minneola, Kans.
A son of Joseph William Barber and Ethel Mae Schuster, he was born September 10, 1928, in Wyaconda, Missouri.
He moved his family to Pampa, Texas, in 1959, and lived there until 1970, working the Pampa and White Deer areas. In 1970, he moved his family to Liberal, Kans. He was the owner of Barber Irrigation of Fowler Kans. He had been a resident of Fowler Kans., for the past 14 years.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Beverly Chestnut Barber; his ex-wife of 21 years, Juanita Buford Barber Cox; three sons: Billy Joe Barber of Ft. Worth, Tex.; Steven Mark Barber of Houston, Tex.; and David Lawrence Barber of Arlington, Tex.; three daughters: Dianna Lynne Barber McCoy of Pampa/Groom, Tex.; Brenda Gail Barber Pelegrin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Lisa Gertrude Barber Jones of Ft. Worth Tex.; Step-sons, Charles Carr of Middleton, Okla., and David Chestnut of Amarillo, Tex.; stepdaughters, Peggy Chestnut Price of Liberal, Kans., and Billie Jean Chestnut Smith of Fowler Kans.; 19 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held February 1, 1997, in the First Christian Church in Fowler, Kans., with Pastor Doug Vasey presiding. Cremation followed the service. Fidler-Orme Mortuary of Meade, Kans., was in charge of arrangements.
