CONKLE CEMETERY, KERR, SPENCER, YOUNG posted by Scott McIntyre on Monday, March 10, 2003

Hi,
Subject: SPENCER family murders book and CONKLE_CEMETERY north of Luray

I am writing to see if any one has a copy of the book that was written about the Spencer Family Murders. This family was murdered by axe at their homestead north of Luray in 1879. A lynch mob hung Bill YOUNG for these murders in October of 1879. This family is buried in the Bethlehem cemetery in a family grave. I would like to either purchase or make a copy of this book.
Also, I wanted to pass along some info about a Clark County country cemetery that you don't have listed. It is called the Conkle Cemetery in Folker township. It is located on the farm property that was owned by Charlie and Glennis KERR, and then the home was owned by their son Leslie and his wife Mary Ann KERR. To locate the cemetery, go north out of Luray on route K for about 5 miles. At the junction of K and N, go right on the gravel road. House is the 2nd on the left. Lane to the cemetery is just west of the big machine shed and driveway. Just go North on the lane for about 1/4 of a mile.
This cemetery is full and has some Conkles and Sissons buried there. Also some Civil War vets and an interesting stone that details an early settler's trek west to Missouri. Unfortunately the older stones are getting very worn and you can't hardly make them out. It would be great if someone from the historical society could make some rubbings off of these
My dad was Leslie Kerr and I grew up on that farm. Now owned by Dan Twillman.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

HUFF, MIDDLEBROOK, MORGAN, NEVINS posted by Larry Thomas on Wednesday, March 26, 2003

I am looking for Chas F. MORGAN b. Maine 1851 or 52, who is my great Grandfather, his wife is either Clarissa or Mary Olive (HUFF).
My grandfather was Walter F. MORGAN, born Missouri, 7-6-1875. Walter's siblings were Edith, Florence and maybe Clayton. Walter married Frona NEVINS on 10-24-1897 in Vermillion Co. IN.
Chas parents were both born in England, I think Fa was Henry MORGAN maybe from Conn., wife maybe Gertrude.
I believe Chas and Olive were divorced in 1900. Chas was a tiemaker..
In 1880 IN census Chas and Clarissa were in Verm Co. IN.
In 1900 IN Chas was living with daughter Edith (MIDDLEBROOK).
Thanks for any help.
